One-way traffic on Maunganui Road

A section of Maunganui Road will be one-way traffic only during work hours for the next few works.

Tauranga City Council contractors are working on safety upgrades on the road, next to Blake Park.

'The detour for northbound traffic is via Hull Road, Totara Street and Matai Street,” says a statement from Tauranga City Council.

'The detour will be in place during work hours until Christmas while safety improvements are made between Hull Road and Hinau Street.

'The safety upgrade includes a solid grassed median island with trees and improved streetlighting, new roundabouts at Clyde Street and Tay Street and upgraded pedestrian crossing facilities.”

Works are scheduled to be finished by Christmas.

Finished by Xmas ! - Nah, never going to happen, given the rate at which road works are carried out in this city...........

Not wanted...

Roundabout might be ok, but the other safety improvements are hazardous and locals do not want them. Another project where council ignores the local community.

This is nuts. Please plan this stuff to be finished by mid December. That when the mount gets really busy with holiday makers coming in. Eggs.

Council planning at its best

What else can we do to make the roads harder to negotiate three weeks from Christmas? Absolute idiocy.

The city we are told is broke. 2 billion shortfall. But they continue to waste money on foolish vanity projects. Time to sack the CEO.

Another waste of money by our broke council. Just like our down town green space that is now a skateboard park.
