With Christmas only a week away many people are looking for places to get into the Christmas spirit.
SunLive rounded up a selection of the Christmas events happening over the next two weeks to celebrate the festivities.
Friday December 18
A Multicultural Christmas celebration- 6pm
An evening of Food, fun, festivities and entertainment will be held at the Wesley Methodist Church, 100 13th Ave. Santa will pop in for a visit. Free but please bring a plate.
Saturday December 19
Greerton Christmas Market- 8am - 11.30am
Free balloons and lollies for the kids, spot prizes, lots of stalls with amazing gift ideas and stocking fillers. Starting from 8am with ‘The Song Birds' performing Christmas songs from 10.30-11.30am. At the Greerton Community Hall.
Christmas Big Day Out- Murupara 2020- 2pm til late
If you feel like getting out of the city this could be an excellent event to head out to. This will be their biggest event post COVID, with the whole town getting involved. Featuring a Christmas float parade at 2pm which ends at the Christmas concert from 6pm. A free event, leaving from the Murupara Library.
Merry Christmas Community Event- 3pm - 6pm
This is one not to be missed as it is free entry with a bouncy castle, carnival games, live entertainment, face painting, a photo booth and food available for purchase. This will be held at the Lifechurch and Tauranga Girls College Carpark from 3-6pm.
2020 Te Puke Christmas in the Park- 4.30pm til late
Te Puke's top Christmas event is free family fun featuring local performers from 4.30pm, a live band from 6pm, carols by candlelight at 8pm, as well as kids activities, a visit from Santa and food trucks. Held at Jubilee Park, entrants are invited to also bring a non-perishable item for the foodbank collection.
A starry night at Bethlehem- Outdoor movie- 5pm til late
Head down to the Bethlehem Town Centre for a night of family fun and to see the Will Ferrell movie ‘Elf' on the big screen just after 8.30pm. There will be roving circus entertainment and free candy floss or popcorn for the first 200 people when the cart opens at 8pm. There will also be Christmas themed instructors for a ‘Have A Go workshop', face painting, live music, and a photo booth. Bring a beanbag, chair or cushion and a blanket.
Sunday December 20
2020 Christmas Carols on the Waterfront- 5.30pm
A free family-friendly event to celebrate the festive season, singing everyone's favourite Christmas Carols by the water. Bring a picnic blanket and meet by the Devonport Road waterfront.
Tuesday December 22
2020 Carols in Karangahake - 6pm
Described as a ‘one of a kind sound', take a walk through the stunning scenery while listening to carols echo down the gorge. Meet at the Karangahake Gorge carpark at 6pm. Carolers will sing there for around half an hour before making their way around the windows walk singing carols along the river's edge. A free event and anyone who plays an instrument is welcome to bring it along and join in.
Thursday December 24
The Christmas Story- Children's Christmas Eve Service- 5.30pm
A special adaptation of Jesus' birth, specifically designed for children, families or anyone that wants to come, with songs, stories and interactive fun. Attendees invited to come dressed as an angel, shepherd or favourite biblical character. Free entry, will children receiving a Christmas present. Held at the Holy Trinity Church, 215 Devonport Road.
Christmas Eve Children's Service- 7pm
A short 45-minute interactive service aimed at children, but for people of all ages, to help them learn about and celebrate all that Christmas is really about. The service will include singing carols and activities to involve everyone who comes. Free entry, at the St George's Anglican Church, 1 Church St.
Midnight Mass and Carols- 11pm
Ring in Christmas with midnight carols at St George's Anglican Church. A "Midnight Communion Service” will begin at 11.30pm which includes more carols and reflection on the importance of Christmas. 1 Church St, Gate Pa. Free entry.
