A man is facing a number of charges after allegedly leading police on a pursuit in Tauranga.

Police received a report of traffic offending at the intersection of Fraser Street and 15th Ave at 2.40am.

'Police then attempted to stop the vehicle near the intersection of Cameron Road and 5th Ave,” says a police spokesperson.

'The vehicle failed to stop and fled.

'Police later located the vehicle in Maungatapu about 4am.”

A 28-year-old man has been charged with failing to stop, resisting police and driving while disqualified.

He is due to appear in Tauranga District Court on January 15.
