Bay kindys buck decline

Tauranga Region Kindergartens principal Peter Monteith says enrolments at Tauranga kindergartens remain high, despite news reports that New Zealand kindergartens are in decline.
'Enrolments remain high, waiting lists are too high in some places and new kindergartens are being planned and built.”

Children at Papamoa Coast Kindergarten.

He says Tauranga has over 1100 children enrolled at 18 kindergartens in the region and could fill another four in the Mount Maunganui and Papamoa areas if we could find sites to build them on.
'Recent changes to longer hours in kindergartens, which reflected community need, are keeping Tauranga Region's Kindergartens strong.”
'In the public's mind, kindergartens are the highest quality Early Childhood Education providers and a lot of our waiting lists are made up of children enrolled in other services.”
Peter says while there is still a shortage of trained teachers in the ECE sector, Tauranga Region Kindergartens is still receiving large numbers of quality applications for its expanding teaching force.
