Police are on the hunt for the occupants of a car chase who fled the scene after the car crashed into a power pole earlier this morning.

Police attempted to stop a vehicle on Te Awanui Drive in Tauranga at 3.45am.

A police spokesperson says the vehicle fled toward Bethlehem and Police followed with lights and sirens for a very brief period before abandoning the incident.

They say the vehicle was located several minutes later, crashed into a power pole near the Cambridge Road on-ramp.

Police made area enquiries to locate the offenders, but were unsuccessful and enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
