A heavy police presence is being reported in Gate Pa this afternoon.

An eyewitness has confirmed seeing at least six police cars in the area.

Cars are said to have been spotted on Cook Street, Ward Street, Humber Crescent and in the vicinity of Recreation Reserve and Tauranga Hospital.

The eyewitness says: 'There's a dog squad unit and they've used a road spike.”

'Police were notified of an incident on Ward Street at around 2.50pm,” says a police spokesperson.

'There is very limited detail about the event at this stage.”
