A number of people are reporting seeing a large contingent of police units this afternoon.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says there was a large police presence seen heading through Ngongotaha just before 2.30pm.

"If it had a siren, it went through. There was everything from dog units to highway cars.

"They were headed towards Hamurana."

Another SunLive reader contacted us on Facebook to say they say seven police cars in Pyes Pa.

"I'm waiting for the school bus and saw them enter the crematorium."
