There has been a wastewater overflow in Matapihi this afternoon during routine maintenance on the wastewater network.
Tauranga City Council is advising the overflow was near the end of Matapihi road and a clean-up response is underway.
A statement from council says the overflow is being managed and the clean-up will take some time.
There is no damage or break in the actual pipeline, says the statement.
'We are working with the local community and hapū to ensure public safety and health and we ask that the public please stay away from this area.
Wastewater from this network has been diverted to Chapel Street, says the statement.
Council will provide updated information as soon as they can.
