Big day for Bay rugby players

Bay of Plenty rugby players will get the chance to impress both the Chiefs and the Steamers selectors under representative rugby conditions in Rotorua today.

Two Bay of Plenty Wasps starting fifteen teams chosen by selectors based on their performances in Baywide games will play in a unique tri-series at the Rotorua International Stadium from 3pm.

Playing under the umbrella of the Wasps the two sides will compete against a Cavaliers XV and a Chiefs XV in two 40 minute games.

Bay of Plenty Steamers coach Kevin Schuler says the two matches will be a faster paced game for many of the players.

'The two encounters are a chance for players to impress both the Steamers and other Bay team selectors.”

'Many of the players will also be under the gaze of the Chiefs selectors.”

Among the players selected is Te Puke winger Jack Wilson, who joined the Western Bay club earlier this year.

Jack increased his Baywide try tally with four touchdowns last weekend and was selected for New Zealand Sevens side earlier in the season.

Fellow Te Puke team members Luke Perrott and Simon Rolleston join Jack in the Wasps selections.
