Except that many "banana republics" do a better job of providing power than we do. Why doesn't the Government ENFORCE investment into the nation's reticulation by the power companies, who are creaming it? How can there be ONE single power source to communities? The whole point of a network is that if a node goes out, the power can be re-routed within minutes (with modern computerization, in milliseconds...). For us, if some idiot hits a power pole, we can have hundreds (even thousands) of people without power for hours. There should be a REQUIREMENT for a certain percentage of profits to be re-invested into network infrastructure. It's obvious that the Companies won't do it off their own bat... "Minimal investment to support the existing network maintenance" seems to be the current mantra, and it should be changed.
