People are being invited to have their say on marine facilities around the city such as boat ramps, jetties, wharves and pontoons.

Tauranga City Council wants to learn how people access Te Awanui, Tauranga Harbour, so it can develop a Marine Facilities Strategy it says will serve the future needs of the community.

Tauranga City Council general manager of corporate services Paul Davidson says the goal is to better understand how people use these facilities and their expectations for how they are provided and managed.

'Understanding how people interact with the harbour will help us develop a strategy that best takes into account everyone's needs.

'We've already started discussions with the commercial marine sector, tangata whenua and other key stakeholders to understand their views. We invite everyone in our community who enjoy water sports to share their thoughts as well.

'From those keen on boating and recreational fishing, to people who take part in waka ama and wakeboarding – we invite everyone to have their say.”

The council will gather all feedback with a view to completing the strategy in 2022.

The council's website provides more information on marine facilities, including more specialised facilities such as the Sulphur Point boat park and the Vessel Works marine precinct.
