Fast and furious cross country

Top primary and intermediate-age runners competed for a chance to represent the region at Waipuna Park on Wednesday.

Sport Bay Of Plenty primary schools sports coordinator Vicki Semple says the high standard of competition at the Western BOP Cross Country shows a lot of running talent in the area.

'It was a fantastic day. There were some great running times and some really exciting finishes.”

The top 15 place-getters in Years 4-6 have won the chance to compete at the Bay of Plenty Inter-School Cross Country Championships at Woodlands Primary School in Opotiki on June 27, while the top seven in the Year 7-8 races make the cut for the regional competition.

Vicki says the Year 7-8 races were a great practice for the AIMS Games which will be held on the same Welcome Bay course in September.
