Critical injuries in digger incident

WorkSafe have been notified of an incident involving a digger in which one person has suffered critical injuries.

St John was called at 12.30pm to an incident on Te Puna Quarry Road in Tauranga.

A St John spokesperson says two ambulances, one Rapid Response Unit and one helicopter responded to the scene.

'St John treated and transported one patient in a critical condition by road ambulance to Tauranga Hospital,” they say.

Police confirm they were called to Te Puna Quarry Road at 12:36pm today after reports of a digger falling down a mountain.

'A helicopter was called initially but stood down and the person was taken to hospital via ambulance,” says a Police spokesperson.

A Worksafe spokesperson says 'we are currently making initial queries and this will determine our next steps.”
