A man has died following a digger crash earlier today.
Police have confirmed a 69-year-old has died following the incident on Te Puna Quarry Road.
'Police were notified of the crash at 12.35pm,” says a police statement.
'The man was critically injured and was transported to hospital.
'Sadly he passed away a short time later.”
Earlier today, police stated they had been called to the scene following reports of a digger falling down a mountain.
Two ambulances, one Rapid Response Unit and one helicopter responded to the scene.
Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing and WorkSafe has been notified.
A Worksafe spokesperson says 'we are currently making initial queries and this will determine our next steps.”
