Women's golf—18 holes
It has been a busy week for the Ladies' section, for apart from the normal Club competitions, many have stepped up to represent Waihi in interclub fixtures on extra days. Barometer Day, a Bay of Plenty District Association Central Zone interclub fixture played annually for a magnificent barometer trophy, involving two Silver, two Bronze, two Vets and two Nine-hole players in each team, was this year played at Tauranga on Friday July 30. Sarah Tomsett, Helen Baynes, Vivienne Lilley, Edna Connolly, Kristine Gascoigne and Jenny O'Dwyer plus Nine- holers Jenni Mora and Julia Nicholson made up the team for Waihi. The day was won by Fairview with 68.5 points. Tauranga's team was a very close second with 68 points, followed by Te Puke 67.5, Otumoetai 65.5, Waihi 64. The barometer will hang in pride of place on the wall at Fairview for the next year.
- Saturday ladies played the third and final round of their Matchplay pennants at Waihi on Sunday August 1 in beautiful conditions, in complete contrast to the awful weather endured in the two earlier rounds. The pennant squad consisted of Michelle Libby, Jackie Robson, Susie Goodall, Kathy Ashton, Kaylene Croker, Phillipa Harvey and Susan Mustard, and each player contributed in no small way to the final outcome, the team on the day being Michelle Libby, Jackie Robson, Susan Mustard and Kaylene Croker, who topped up points already earned in the previous two rounds to win with 207.5, followed by Mount Maunganui 187, and Omokoroa 182.5. Well done Waihi, a great team effort with an outstanding result.

- It was a bright sunny day on Wednesday August 4, but a very cold southerly wind kept most players muffled up in extra layers. There were only 24 in the field for the Haszard Cup nett competition, and Dot Ramsey has done it again, blitzing the field for the third week in a row, eight shots ahead of the runner up. Nett results; Dot Ramsey 67; Edna Connolly 75; Karen Lee 76; Sarah Tomsett, Adele Gunning 77; Jacquie Bain, Jenny O'Dwyer 78. Hidden Holes: Helen Baynes 9 points. Katikati Dreamers Beauty Clinic Player of the Week: Dot Ramsey.
The Fourball Best Ball final match for the Dillimore Cup was played on Wednesday August 4. Billie-Jo Simmons and Jan Robinson played the match of their lives, combining well all the way to beat Wendy Matutinovich and Suzanne Burns on 13. Well done, and congratulations.

- Diane Lewis, Bev Ireland and Edna Connolly represented Waihi at the Bay of Plenty/Thames Valley Veteran Ladies Dorothy McNicol interclub tournament at the Williamson Course in Whangamata on Monday August 2. It was a stableford competition, with 11 Clubs represented. Shall we say that the Waihi team enjoyed the course, had a great day, but did not feature in either the prize list, or Sales table. Because much of the Titoki course, is closed for tree removal and maintenance, golf was played on the Nine- hole Williamson course, then the entire field went to the Titoki course for lunch and prize-giving.
Nine hole golf
The Nine-hole reporter ran out of expletives to describe the wintry weather they endured on Tuesday August 3: the wind so distracted her that she walked towards the next tee carrying the pin in her hand, and had to be reminded to put it back in the hole. Ten women and one lone man braved the elements to play Waihi Comp and TOB stableford.
Division 1: Mandy Piper 17; Glen Bennett 16; Lorraine Meyer 15.
Division 2: Margaret Meldrum 18; Carol Hambleton, Alison Turney 16.
Men TOB Stableford: Rex Smith

'Heigh-Ho, Heigh-Ho, it's off to work we go” sing Pete and Ted happily as they gather their chainsaws, tractor, trailer and other necessary implements to carry out their tree-removal programme. Full of enthusiasm and energy, whistling as they work, they continue to make inroads into the trees that need to be removed, and with a few very large trees with the X of doom painted on the trunks, there is enough to keep these two happy for weeks.
