A broken wastewater pipe has in Maru Street in Mount Maunganui is now fixed after causing a medium level wastewater overflow into the Te Maire Street open drain.
Tauranga City Council is reported the break was in a rising main that delivers wastewater into the main network from the Maru Street pump station.
The spill has been cleaned up and health warning signs have been installed along the drain.
The wastewater pump station had been shut down and wastewater flows were being managed with tanker trucks.
Nearby industrial plants that normally put a high amount of trade waste into the wastewater system are also managed their own flows, including use of tankers.
Cause of the break is not yet known.
