State Highway 29 is now open in both directions after several containers fell from a truck early this morning.
The road has been closed for the majority of the day and motorists were urged to delay their journeys or expect a long detour
Waka Kotahi Transport Agency says the containers fell from the truck about 500m south of the Kaimai Summit, spilling chemicals on the road.
