Extra Covid-19 testing centres are being set up in Tauranga today for a possible surge in demand as people wait to find out if the virus is in the city.

A wastewater sample collected last Thursday returned a positive result and follow-up samples collected yesterday morning are still being processed, with results expected tomorrow.

In the meantime, health officials are urging people to get tested if they have symptoms or have been to any locations of interest in Tauranga, Waikato, Auckland or Upper Hauraki.

Wastewater from Western Bay of Plenty towns Paeroa, Waihi Beach, Katikati, Matamata, Te Puke and Maketu is also being tested.

Why are they not taking tests from all the areas coming into the Waste Water plant at Chapel Street or are they only testing at Chapel Street and being Lazy as per normal
