There are 19 new cases of Covid-19 in the community today, 18 of which are in Auckland and one in Upper Hauraki.

Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield confirms that follow-up wastewater collections in Tauranga and Mount Maunganui have returned negative results.

Further tests are due over the coming days 'to be sure” says Bloomfield.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Bloomfield are providing an update on the current Covid-19 outbreak from Wellington.

Of the 19 new cases today, 16 are considered close contacts.

"We're expecting another 30 or so cases in the coming days from day five and day 12 testing," explains Bloomfield.

The total of cases in the Delta variant outbreak is now 1249.

There were also six new cases in managed isolation today.

Speaking at today's government briefing, Bloomfield says 19 of the recent cases are linked to transitional or emergency housing.

Among today's cases is a MIQ worker at Naumi Hotel in Auckland. This case is still being investigated to determine if it is border related or part of the community outbreak.

Suburbs of interest have been updated - Otara is no longer a suburb of interest, while Henderson and Papakura now are.

However, the suburbs of Clover Park, Māngere, Favona, Manurewa and Mount Wellington/Sylvia Park are still of interest.

"If you are in those suburbs, please come forward and get tested whether or not you have symptoms," says Dr Bloomfield.

The case in Upper Hauraki is a student from Mangatangi School who has been isolating as a contact.

The student developed symptoms in recent days and therefore got tested. They have been transported into a managed isolation facility.

There are currently 18 cases in hospital, eight in Middlemore and Auckland and two at North Shore. Four of these are in ICU or HDU.

There were 40,874 vaccines administered yesterday, 13,914 of which are first doses and 26,960 second.

Hardly piling up eh? Sir Ash keen to tell us about long Covid now. 37% experience one or more symptoms a few months after. Ok. 25% of the control group of flu ‘victims’ report the same. Interestingly the symptom most Covid sufferers reported by double at 15% was anxiety / depression. Mmmm…..I would have thought 15% of everybody on Earth could say they’ve been anxious and/or depressed in the pandemic. Was there anxiety caused by the virus per se, or just the situation? Are we now going to continue with lockdowns, closed borders and dramatically reduced wealth because 37% of Covid ‘victims’ still have a few minor symptoms, similar to flu patients, a few months later? Seriously?
