Search for Bay’s young rugby stars

The Bay of Plenty Under-16 selectors are casting a wide net in order select the two Bay Under-16 teams that will take part in the BOPRU representative programme this season.

Fifteen secondary schools are represented in the search to find the Bay of Plenty stars of the future, the Under-16 trials are to be played on Sunday, July 15 at the Paengaroa Domain kicking off at 10.30am.

Last season's Bay Under-16 side were unlucky not to annex the Northern Region title going down 24-15 in the title decider.

This season, Bay of Plenty will have two Under 16 teams in the Northern Region competitions.

Two recent Under-16 skills sessions, conducted by the Steamers coaches Kevin Schuler and John Walters at the Paengaroa Domain, should have the Bay youngsters fully prepared for the trials on July 15.

The purpose of the Under-16 skills sessions undertaken by the Steamers coaches is to assist the player's transition through to senior ranks in the future.

Brendan Webby from John Paul College assisted by Alan Pike from Trident High School will take the Under-16 side, with Tauranga Boys' College mentor Charles Williams and Andrew Bartrum from Bethlehem College taking the Under-16 Development team.

Players that are unavailable should contact Brendon Webby 027 241 7270.
