Harman off track in world 100m

Papamoa sprinter Kodi Harman was knocked out of the 100 metres at the World Junior Athletics Championships in Barcelona overnight.

The 18-year-old recorded a 10.99 second run, slower than the 10.79 second run two weeks ago in heats at the Bauhaus Junieron Gala in Mannheim Germany, and slower than his personal best of 10.56.

He would have needed a time of 10.65 to progress to the semi-finals.

When SunLive spoke to Kodi prior to leaving for Europe three weeks ago he was hoping the top competition would push him to set a new personal best.

Kodi is also competing in the 200metre heats, where he is determined to run faster than his 'disappointing” 21.79 in Mannheim. His personal best is 21.39.

Tauranga runner Julian Oakley is also competing in the 800m and 1500m events at the world juniors which finish in Barcelona on Sunday.
