One person is reported to have suffered critical injuries in a single-vehicle crash in the Coromandel.

Police were advised of a vehicle collision on Kauaeranga Valley Road, near Thames, at around 3.15pm.

Another person has suffered serious injuries in the crash and the road is currently closed, say police.

witnesses in the area have reported seeing the Westpac rescue helicopter in attendance.

'Ambulance and Fire services are now on scene,” says a police spokesperson.

'One person is reported to have critical injuries, while the other has serious injuries.

'The road is currently closed for and will be for some time.”

Police are encouraging the public to avoid the area and to expect delays.
