One new Covid community case in the BOP

One new Covid community case is being reported in the Bay of Plenty today.

The Ministry of Health has announced 18 new community cases nationally - 13 in Auckland, three in the Waikato, one in the Bay of Plenty and one in the Lakes District.

There are also 16 new Covid cases at the border.

There are five new Omicron cases at the border, taking the total to 54.

The Ministry reports there are 54 Covid cases in hospital; Auckland: 19; North Shore: 7; Middlemore: 22; Tauranga: 3; Rotorua: 2; Waikato: 1.

The Ministry of Health is today reporting a woman in her 70s, who had Covid-19, died last night at Middlemore Hospital.

"The family has requested that no further details be released and, out of respect for those wishes, we will be making no further comment at this time," says an MOH spokesperson.

"Our thoughts and condolences are with the patient's family and friends at this deeply sad time."

Regional Breakdown

Auckland

There are 13 new cases being reported in Auckland over the past 24 hours. 

Health and welfare providers are now supporting 1,531 people to isolate at home, including 422 cases.

Waikato

There are three new cases in the Waikato today with two in Te Kūiti, and one in Hamilton.

Two were known contacts of previous cases. The remaining case is under investigation.

In the Waikato, Public Health, primary care and manaaki providers are supporting 66 cases to isolate at home.

Bay of Plenty

There is one new case being reported in the Bay of Plenty today, in Tauranga.

This case is a household contact of a previously reported case and is in isolation.

Lakes

There is one new case being reported in the Lakes DHB area today, in Rotorua.

Investigations into any potential connections to this case are underway.
