Person critical after water rescue at Omanu Beach

UPDATED 5.15pm: A person is in a critical condition after a water rescue at Omanu Beach this afternoon.

A St John spokesperson says ambulance have transported a person in a critical condition to Tauranga Hospital.

A witness at the beach has told SunLive a man was dragged out of the water by a jet ski doing a roam.

'Lifeguards did CPR for about an hour, paramedics arrived and continued CPR,” says the witness.

They say around seven lifeguards and 10 paramedics as well as police were at the incident.

EARLIER: Ambulance and surf lifesavers are helping a person involved in a water incident on Omanu Beach.

A witness at the scene contacted SunLive and says there is a person on the beach getting CPR.

A St John spokesperson says St John were called to a water incident at Surf Road in Mount Maunganui .

She says there are two ambulance crew currently on scene.
