A Rahui on net fishing in all the waterways from Three Mile Creek to Apata River has been announced on Sunday.
The Bowentown Boatings and Sports Fishing Club have made the announcement on their Facebook page on Sunday morning.
"The kaumatua of Otawhiwhi, Te Rereatukahia and Tuapiro Marae have collectively sanctioned a Rahui on all netting effective immediately," the post reads.
"This covers from Waiorooro (Three Mile Creek), down along the Ocean Beach around Bowentown Heads, including Shelly and ANZAC Bays, up the harbour north to Athenree, down through Tuapiro, Ongare and Kauri Points, with southernmost point being the Apata River, inclusive of all water ways in this area.
"This is to replenish seriously depleted fish stocks in our area.
"This is supported by the wider community, our local Surf Life Saving Club, Waihi Beach Coastguard, Bowentown Boating and Sports Fishing Club, MPI and NZ Police."

There’s plenty of fish up bowentown. This is to appease uniformed people who have a dislike of nets .

To let the trawling vessels know. I'd hate to see them net more than little Joe with his little net.
