Emergency services are dealing with what has been reported to be a sudden death in Mount Maunganui.

St John have also confirmed one patient has been transported to Tauranga Hospital in a critical condition.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says police, fire and St John Paramedics have been spotted on Maranui Street this morning.

'Police are assisting ambulance and fire emergency with a sudden death,” confirms a police spokesperson.

'There is no further information at this stage.”

St John say they were notified of the incident at 8.01am.

'We responded with one ambulance and one rapid response unit,” says a St John spokesperson.

'We have assessed and transported one patient in a critical condition to Tauranga Hospital.”
