The Pyes Pā childcare facility linked to a suspected Omicron case is reassuring people they are following safety protocols.
Earlier today the Ministry of Health announced a person suspected to have Omicron was at the BestStart Pyes Pā on January 19 and was likely infectious at the time.
BestStart deputy CEO Fiona Hughes says the centre has taken swift action to keep their children, their families and staff safe.
"A parent has tested positive and advised the centre of their result today," says Fiona. "There were 59 children and 15 staff in attendance and they have been identified as close contacts."
Fiona says the centre has been closed and BestStart have undertaken a deep clean.
"We are currently working closely with the Ministry of Education and the DHB on the steps that need to be taken and awaiting advice on when the centre will be able to re-open," says Fiona.
"The safety of our tamariki is paramount, so we have acted quickly. Our thoughts are with our team members and families of children who were attending the centre at the time
"We are thinking of them all as they await their test results and wish the affected parent a speedy recovery. We look forward to welcoming them all back soon."
A Ministry of Health spokesperson says that Toi Te Ora Public Health is working with the Ministry of Education to establish a clear view on who was present at the centre on the day and is in the process of contacting those people.
