A Tauranga gym has been added to the Ministry of Health's locations of interest for Tauranga amid cases of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 in the city.

CityFitness in Fraser Cove joins the KFC Tauranga at 449 Cameron Road as being linked to an Omicron case today.

Anyone who was at the gym in question on Tuesday, January 25 from 10am to 12pm is asked to Self-isolate, test immediately and on day 5 after you were exposed at this location of interest. This case is linked to a suspected Omicron exposure.

Further isolation and testing requirements will be provided by Public Health.

Record your visit online or call Healthline so our contact tracers can get in touch.

The same advice applies for anyone at the same location on Monday, January 24 between 10am and 12pm. The MOH does not list this exposure event as linked to Omicron at this stage. SunLive has approached the Ministry for clarification.

Earlier today the KFC on Cameron Road was added as an Omicron exposure event from Thursday, January 20, between 5pm and 10.16pm.

SunLive contacted the Ministry of Health following a number of enquries about whether or not the case had been in the restaurant itself, or through the drive-thru.

The Ministry of Health responded by saying; "we appreciate the local interest in this location of interest, but for privacy reasons, we don't share that level of information about locations of interest.

"The important thing to note is the health advice for those who were there at the time, and may have been exposed."

The two new locations of interest follow the suspected case that was also present at the BestStart Pyes Pā on January 19 and was likely infectious at the time.

There were 59 children and 15 staff in attendance at the time.

All people present at the childhood centre at the time are being treated as close contacts, being asked to isolate, and get tested immediately, says a statement from the ministry.

BestStart deputy CEO Fiona Hughes told SunLive that safety was 'paramount” in their response to the news.

Three new Covid-19 cases have been reported in the Bay of Plenty today.

"One of these cases is part of a Tauranga household with two other cases, reported earlier this week," says a Ministry statement.

"Whole genome sequencing has now linked these two earlier cases to the January Omicron cluster, and the new case is being treated as Omicron."

The remaining two cases from today are in the Eastern Bay of Plenty and are being investigated for links to previously reported cases.

Three more cases which have tested positive for Covid-19 will be included in tomorrow's official numbers and are all linked to an exposure event at the BestStart Pyes Pa. All three are being treated as Omicron.

Toi Te Ora Public Health is expecting further exposure events arising from these cases and locations of interest will be published on the Ministry of Health website when they are identified.

This doesn't make sense as these places are vax pass ports, I thought the vax was the protection, maybe not?
