The Katikati Medical Centre is confirming one case of Covid in the town.

In a post on its Facebook page, the centre says 'at this stage there is one confirmed case and one highly probable case”.

The post says the two cases are in different households.

There is no confirmation as to whether the cases are Omicron or not.

SunLive has approached the Ministry of Health about the cases, only to be told that: 'All confirmed cases of Covid-19 are announced each day in the 1pm update.”

Katikati Medical Centre says it is working on the assumption that the cases are Omicron.

'Public Health are involved and will investigate links, contacts and locations of interest.”

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?

-If you are sick, please get a swab. Don't put it down to hayfever, says the centre.

'Any snotty noses, coughs, sore throats or fevers need to be swabbed and you need to isolate at home. If you have been told that you are a contact or if you have been to a high risk location of interest, you will also need to be swabbed.

'Please call us on 07 549 0411 to arrange your swab. DO NOT JUST TURN UP!!! Phone lines may be busy – please be patient and just keep trying.

'We will also have a swab service on Saturday and the time for this clinic is to be confirmed (I will post again when I know). '

Other testing sites can be found at here.

DO NOT PANIC

The centre is asking people to not all rush to Countdown. 'They won't run out. Just shop normally.

'Wear your mask whenever you are out and about, social distance, clean your hands and scan in everywhere you go, be vaccinated. If you are due your booster, please get it.

'We know three Pfizer vaccines provides good protection against Omicron and for most vaccinated people Covid will be a mild to moderate illness.”

If people have an emergency, they are being asked to contact 111.
