Increased Covid testing is being made available at the Katikati Medical Centre on Sunday following the reporting of positive Covid-19 cases in Katikati.

Late on Saturday afternoon Katikati Medical Centre reported four more positive Covid-19 cases on their Facebook page. This is in addition to the two cases reported by the Ministry of Health at the 1pm update.
"They are all household contacts of the two previously reported cases and are all isolating already," says a Katikati Medical Centre staff member in the Facebook post.
"This shows how infectious Omicron is."
The team is encouraging anyone with symptoms to drive in to the Katikati Medical Centre's staff car park on Sunday January 30 between 9am and 1pm.
"Wear a mask, lower all windows, turn your air con off and bring your NHI number if you know it."
Locations of interest haven't yet been announced for Katikati in relation to the positive cases although the Chemist Warehouse Bethlehem has been listed on Saturday as a location of interest. A person who tested positive for Covid-19 visited the Bethlehem location between 11.03am and 11.30am on Monday January 24. Anyone there at the same time is advised to self-monitor for Covid-19 symptoms for ten days after being exposed. If symptoms develop, get a test and stay at home until getting a negative test result.
"Public health knows we need to know these [Katikati locations of interest] ASAP, but as you can imagine, their service is under pressure and they are working incredibly hard for which we thank them."
Eight new Covid cases were reported by the Ministry of Health in the Bay of Plenty on Saturday. Three of them are on board the Maersk Bogor which is berthed at the Port of Tauranga.

The five remaining cases in the Western Bay of Plenty, including one new case in Katikati were included in the 1pm Ministry of Health update.

Public health staff are awaiting the results of whole genome sequencing for the Katikati cases, but in the meantime, they are being treated as though they're Omicron.
