Heavy rain is expected for parts of central New Zealand this weekend. "A couple of fronts, preceded by a moist north to northwesterly flow, is expected to move slowly northwards over central New Zealand on Saturday and Sunday, bringing periods of heavy rain to many areas," says a MetService spokesperson. Orange Heavy Rain Warnings are in force for the Marlborough Sounds, Wellington, Horowhenua Kapiti Coast, the Tararua Range and Taranaki.

Heavy Rain Watches are in force for Waitomo, Taumarunui, Taihape, Whanganui, Manawatu, Wairarapa and Central Hawke's Bay. People are advised to keep up to date with the latest forecasts in case any changes are made or further areas are added. Please note, the Red Warning for northern Westland and Buller has been lifted.
