Wet weather has continued to affect the completion of the resurfacing works on State Highway 2 Takitimu Drive under the Waihī Road overbridge.
Prior to Waitangi Day weekend, Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency contractors re-opened all lanes on Takitimu Drive to reduce the expected congestion caused by holiday traffic over the long weekend.
Traffic management was reinstated immediately following the peak morning traffic period this morning, with one lane available in each direction, says a spokesperson for the roading agency.
"Weather permitting, the final surfacing layer, road marking and barrier reinstatement will take place before the morning of Monday, February 14.
"Delays are expected through the site area during peak traffic periods. During the week, traffic will be switched onto different lanes to allow the various work activities to take place.
"Motorists are reminded to adhere to the temporary speed limits and follow directions from traffic management staff and signs.
"Waka Kotahi thanks motorists for their patience and understanding while this important work is undertaken to improve the state highway network."

Plan Ahead?

Waka Kotahi should have used a play from their own book here! However, they obviously have put precious little planning into this job. It started as a 3 -4 week project (which I'm sure we all agree was needed) then was delayed 2 weeks after 1 day of rain... then they wasted 2 long weekends in the name of a holiday. So, to allow a few thousand long weekend visitors to drive through the worksite freely all be it slowly, they have severely impacted tens of thousands of commuters trying to get to work & home again. Well done. Really awesome planning! NOT

Wigan absolutely agree.! Who does Waka use as a project manager? Obviously someone from the Hesd contractor! No urgency whatsoever to get the works done….most days sees only one man on a roller …Really? Give the commuter pain but put some sort of limit on it .
