Live updates: Mandate protest enters third day

UPDATE 9.48AM: Police have this morning trespassed all protesters at parliament after the Speaker of the House closed the grounds.

Police have appealed repeatedly to protestors to leave the grounds and have begun evicting people from the precinct, says Superintendent Corrie Parnell.

"While police acknowledges people's right to protest, this needs to be conducted in a way that do not unfairly impact on the wider public.

"More than 100 additional police staff have been called in, including from other districts, to support the operation.

"The public should continue to expect traffic delays and are asked to avoid the area, if possible."

EARLIER:

A protest at Parliament has stretched into a third day with a group camped out on the grounds and nearby streets.

Authorities have told the group protesting at Covid-19 vaccine mandates to leave, but there have been no signs of that so far.

Police again spent the night monitoring the demonstrators, after yesterday arresting three men who have been charged with obstruction.

About 50 tents are in the grounds, while parked trucks and campervans continue to block the roads around the Beehive, and morning commuters are again being told to expect delays.

Meanwhile, a protester has told RNZ more speeches and music is planned for today, and the vehicles blocking the streets are not going anywhere.

Another Option

Instead of telling commuters to expect delays why don't the Police tell the protesters to expect action for their unlawful, self entitled actions. A right to protest is not a right to cause chaos and unlawful behavior. It is not a right to abuse people and businesses and egg young girls. It is past time for action. Enough is enough. Labor have already said they don't care, it's a Police matter. This Government needs to be remembered at the next election and removed from their disgrace and dictatorial power. Yes Jacinda, the world will be watching and talking. What an embarrassing day to be a Kiwi.

NZ World leaders for Covid response

Finally the police are moving in to remove the anti Mandate, anti Jab minority who are disrupting people that just want to get on with life and see this disease gone. Over 90% of NZ have had there say by getting the Jab. We are world leaders at controlling Covid. We only have 53 deaths to date from Covid. Our hospitals have not yet been over run by Covid. The economy is relatively stable, exports are up, unemployment at its lowest, new house numbers are the highest for 70 years. These protesters need to go home and reflect on what they have contributed to this country rather than their own misguided interests.. If you don't believe this do your research on how other countries compare.
