Covid-19: 306 community cases; 12 in hospital

One person remains in hospital in the Bay of Plenty.

More than 300 new community cases of Covid are being reported today.

In a statement released this afternoon, the Ministry of Health says there are a total of 306 cases nationwide.

Seven of today's cases are in the Bay of Plenty.

The Ministry says 30 new cases have been identified at the border.

According to the latest figures from the Ministry, there are 3035 active Covid cases in New Zealand.

Twelve people are in hospital with the virus and there have been 53 deaths to date.

There are currently 52 active cases in the Bay of Plenty District Health Board area - an increase of eight in the past 24 hours.

"The Big Boost Week is now in full swing with 56,257 booster doses administered across New Zealand yesterday, bringing the total so far to more than 1.7 million," says an MOH spokepserson.

"With Omicron in New Zealand, the best thing you can do is get your booster as soon as it is due. Boosters lower your chances of getting very sick and being hospitalised. It also helps slow the spread of the virus.

"That's why it's important to get your booster four months after your second dose - so if you're over 18 and your booster is due, please get it now.

"As cases of Omicron continue to be identified around the country, it's important New Zealanders are as ready as they can be if they contract the virus or come into contact with someone else who has the virus.

"Make sure you have your personal plans ready, and follow the key public health advice of getting vaccinated, boosted, tested (if you're symptomatic) and masking up. "
