Colleagues of a Tauranga man who was last heard from on Friday are hoping for a positive outcome.

David Holland was reported missing from his Papamoa Beach home after he failed to show up for work at Tauranga Hospital.

Friends believe he was intending to go for a swim at the beach near the end of Pacific View Road.

"We are all waiting anxiously for news," says one of his colleagues.

Police say they've searched the beach and surrounding areas, but have found nothing that may help lead them to understand where he may be.

Further searches took place on Sunday afternoon.

As time passes since his disappearance, his workmates are holding on to hope for a positive outcome.

'We share everyone's concerns for David's welfare at this time and would ask anyone with information which might help police in their efforts to find him to contact them as soon as possible," says Bay of Plenty District Health Board CEO Pete Chandler.

Police say they would like to hear from anyone at Pāpāmoa Beach on Friday about 7.30pm, who may have seen the missing man.

They are also requesting anyone with information about his whereabouts or movements to get in contact.

Anyone with information has been urged to call police on 105 and quote file number 220312/6869.
