One in custody after armed police callout

UPDATE 2.21PM: One person is in police custody following an armed police callout in Tauranga.

Armed cordons were put in place in Greerton after police received a report in the area that someone had allegedly presented a firearm.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says police were blocking off Cornwell Street.

Another SunLive reader says police had cordons in place at the intersection of Cornwell Street and Greerton Road.

A police spokesperson says there were no shots fired and no one injured.

'One person is in custody - charges unclear at this stage.”

Reports are coming in of an armed police presence in Greerton.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says armed police are blocking off Cornwell Street in Greerton this afternoon.

Another SunLive reader says police have cordons in place at the intersection of Cornwell Street and Greerton Road.

People are being advised to avoid the area.
