Safety improvement work and upgrades are being carried out on Maunganui Road and Totara Street.

Work to upgrade footpaths, construct a roundabout, and continue safety improvements at Mount Maunganui, include Golf Road, Tui Street, Hinau Street, Sutherland Avenue and Totara Street

Golf Road and Tui Street

  • Safety improvement work to upgrade the existing footpath continues outside Mount Maunganui College between Golf Road and Tui Street. There will be a road closure in place until early May on Tui Street at the Maunganui Road intersection to allow construction on the footpath to continue. Work is due to be completed in early May.
  • Construction of the roundabout at Tui Street begins Tuesday, 19 April. This requires closure of the southbound lane (towards Bayfair) on Maunganui Road at Dee Street until Friday, 20 May.

Hinau Street and Sutherland Avenue

  • Work continues in this area. This work is a continuation of the safety improvements happening along Maunganui Road. Works include improved cycling facilities and connections to existing cycleways, new roundabouts at Hinau Street, Matai Street and Sutherland Avenue, and improved pedestrian crossing points.

Sutherland Avenue

  • Due to unforeseen circumstances, to make these improvements a section of Sutherland Avenue between Maunganui Road and Pitau Road will be closed until late May.

Totara Street safety upgrade

"We're working on a safer option for people who travel along Totara Street," says a Tauranga City Council spokesperson. Work between Rata Street and Kawaka Street continues, Monday to Friday between 6am and 4pm. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained with speed restrictions in place. Work continues between Hewletts Road and Hull Road. Between 7pm and 7am traffic traveling south along Totara Street will be diverted along Maunganui Road between 7pm and 7am, Monday to Thursday, until this section of work is complete. Both lanes of traffic will remain open along Totara Street during the day. For more information visit other Tauranga City Council website.
