Tauranga City Council have been carrying out an extensive upgrade of Kulim Park, including a new playground, parking layout and shared pathway. "Construction is now largely completed, with the shared pathway opened for the holiday weekend and the hoop on the new 3x3 basketball court to be installed next week," says a Tauranga City Council spokesperson.

"We are also adding finishing touches such as extra seats and planting."

The council plan to hold a community event to celebrate the completion of the park in the near future. "Just a reminder that if you see our team at work, give them a wave but please keep a two-metre physical distance," says a council spokesperson.

Can NOTHING be left just simple? Three or four barbeques, some benches here and there and grass. Just as it's been for DECADES. Stop 'p....ing about' with stupid stuff. Just let SOMETHING be left as natural as possible. Take the stupid basketball court away!!! It's a park with a stunning harbour view. Let it be!!! Sick of stupid 'mucking about'. We aren't England, it's NZ.

I agree with Bruja

What was wrong with the way the Park was? Another couple of BBQ's and upgrade the toilets. Now the residents have to put up with the constant thumping of basketballs. Just more money thrown away by stupid small-minded bureaucrats with far too much of other people's money to play with and no fear of the consequences of bad decisions. I'm just so sick of these Bellends making irrational decisions and lumping the costs onto the Ratepayers without fear of consequences!

HAVE to Agree with

Bruja & TheCameltoeKid. Just wait until the NON- local "kids" start hitting the hoops at 6 / 7 / 8 / 9pm at night!! Have you ever heard the NOISE that the balls and hoops make?? I am sure that the local residents s who pay 10's of thousands in rates every year will not be happy when they realise what the council has DUMPED in their street.

What's England got to do with Kiwi stupidity and wasteful spending? Are you blaming the motherland now for dumb Kiwis throwing your money away? Scraping the barrel there matey. And nobody even plays basketball in England. Only football, cricket, lawn tennis and crown green bowls are acceptable sports. And you won't find grown men playing on scooters. Apart from that, good points.

Great example

Let’s hope that the quality of the upgrades at the park are a mark of things to come for the city. Absolutely the best family park in town now and from the number of people there, I’d say that our family is not alone in our love for this park. Of course the grumpy Sunlive readers don’t want families to have anything in Tauranga. Just want to complain about everything.

I am part of a group of friends who have enjoyed Kulim Park regularly, for over 20 years now. I can understand people not wanting it to change, but that doesn't make them "grumpy". (It just makes them resistant to change; that is not ALWAYS a bad thing... some changes SHOULD be resisted...) You don't think the comments about noise have any validity? Maybe you don't live in the neighborhood? I'm not judging the park until I have time to go and experience it. It looks fine to me, but the devil is in the details.

Lock the gates

For goodness sake, close the gates, have security do their rounds, I don't think you rich people give a toss about kids and their poor parents having somewhere to go and enjoy letting their kids have fun, get a grip you selfish people, if you are expecting trouble that isnt already happening from noise from bouncing basketballs but are expecting it to, you are deeply boring and need to get a life and perhaps remember how much fun you had when you were a kid, geez, what is a matter with some people, have a bit of mischief and adventure, just because there are more basketball courts and places for kids to have fun, what's the problem, we are not going to bow down to you sad lot, obviously your time on earth is becoming unsustainable because your high standards of NO FUN ON EARTH isnt being met.
