A cold front is likely to push northwards over New Zealand during Sunday, says a WeatherWatch spokesperson.

"There will likely be some rain for the West Coast and far south of the South Island then easing to showers once the front moves through.

"The western North Island has a showery day with southwesterly winds, perhaps some rain for a time later in the evening or overnight as the front moves in. Showers get into the likes of Canterbury from afternoon also after a dry morning."

Nelson and Marlborough have a dry day, mostly sunny too although there could be some high cloud, according to WeatherWatch.

"Also the eastern North Island has a great day with light winds and temperatures in the late teens or early twenties."

The next week temperatures are likely to be more cool than they are warm, says WeatherWatch.

Southerly quarter airflows for the first half of next week will likely mean temperatures on average are going to be a bit cool across New Zealand.

"Monday for the eastern South Island is okay though with highs in the late teens or early twenties then the same goes for the eastern North Island on Tuesday. Auckland and Northland will experience day time highs in the late teens or early twenties for most of next week," says a WeatherWatch spokesperson.

"Elsewhere can expect highs in the mid to late teens on average most of the time. Temperatures in the early to mid teens will occur be for inland areas and about the far south of the South Island, highs in the mid to late teens will be more coastal and for sheltered spots like Nelson and Bay of Plenty."
