In the last game of the Seeka KI Western BOP season, Papamoa won their first piece of Western Bay silverware for a number of years.
With the right to lift the Phelan Cup aloft in victory, the Papamoa team beat Rangiuru 10-5 in an encounter that went down to the wire. The Papamoa victory was a sweet reward, as last season they were narrowly defeated 21-17 by the Katikati in the Phelan Cup final.
Three of the four Seeka KI Western BOP teams progressed to this Saturday's grand finals day at the Tauranga Domain, after semi-final success on the weekend
An all Western Bay final will take place in Division Two, where the prize is a berth in next seasons Division One competition.
Katikati won a battle of attrition with Edgecumbe on the Bay of Plenty border before emerging with an 11-nil victory.
The Arataki clash with Kawerau in the Eastern Bay went right to the wire before the visitors grabbed a solitary point 14-13 win.
Tauranga Sports will represent the Western Bay of Plenty in the Baywide Reserve Grade final after overcoming archrivals Mount Maunganui in one of the early games at the Tauranga Domain.
The 28-9 victory reflected the form of the team who have annexed three Seeka KI Western BOP trophies this season. Their opponents will be Whakarewarewa who sneaked home from Ngongotaha by a solitary point 22-21.
