Burling sails into eighth place

Bay athletes had mixed fortunes once again at the London Olympics overnight.

Tauranga sailor Peter Burling and sailing partner Blair Tuke finished in ninth and seventh place respectively in their first two races in the 49ers class and sit in eighth place overall.

The pair has 13 races left in the round robin phase to qualify for the medal race on Wednesday, August 8.

Elsewhere, the seventh ranked Black Sticks, featuring Tauranga's Andy Hayward, were poor in succumbing 2-0 to Korea.

The team now faces tough matches against India, Netherlands and Germany, and may struggle to qualify for the knockout rounds.
