Tauranga's Leroy Carter has been reselected for the All Blacks Sevens after making his international debut in April.

Coach Clark Laidlaw named Carter as one of the 14 players to head to France and England for the Toulouse and London Sevens as their last international preparation before July's Commonwealth Games.

Now officially part of the team and gearing up to impress again in the international arena, Leroy says he can't wait to get stuck into some more games.

'It's good to be back on the world stage. We had a two week break since our last series and all the boys can't wait to get back into it,” says Leroy.

He says the preparation for these tournaments has been intense.

'It's been pretty full on. Monday, Wednesday, Friday's are pretty full on sessions, seven on seven. It's all us boys working, and between those days we try our best to rest and recover so we can go 100 per cent the next day. We are all loving it though, there's heaps of energy.”

The training schedule will continue after he departs for France today.

'It's a big couple days travel, one group of us has to stay in Melbourne for a bit, but then once we get there, we get our bodies moving right again, then we have a week of training and that Saturday we're into our first game.

'I can't wait to do a bit of travel. I've been to France with school and it's a cool place.”

Leroy suggests that for local players looking to take a similar path into rugby, the best method is to be persistent.

'Train hard, stay at it. Especially for schoolboys.

'Not everyone is always a star straight away. Some people take some time to blossom so get stuck in and keep at it.”

Leroy first saw a pathway into the sport during his time at Tauranga Boys' College.

'I had five years at Tauranga Boys' where I started to take my rugby a bit more seriously, and came out in the Bay 19s system.

'Then I went into the Steamers, and the coach here [Clark Laidlaw] gave us a call and I came in for a couple replacement player weeks, and basically just fell in love with the game. I wanted to be a piece of it.”

Leroy was named the MVP at the Condor Sevens in 2017.

He became a member of the New Zealand under 20 team in 2019, and signed to the Chiefs wider training squad in 2020.

In recent times, Leroy was part of the All Blacks Sevens domestic tournaments in 2021, coming into the team as a training partner.

In April 2022, Leroy made his international debut in Singapore as part of the All Blacks Sevens team.

Leroy and his team will begin their trip to France for the Toulouse Sevens today, and will come up against Scotland, USA and Australia.
