Snoop Dogg's fans thought the hip-hop legend had dropped New Zealand like it's hot this week when word got out that he'd cancelled his gigs here altogether.

But the Tauranga promoter involved in bring the superstar to Aotearoa has revealed the rapper will reveal new dates for 2023 soon.

The Doggfather had originally announced two major outdoor shows in Auckland and Christchurch in November 2022 as part of the ‘I Wanna Thank Me' tour.

On Monday, however, Snoop Dogg announced via social media that he was cancelling all of his upcoming tour dates outside the United States, citing 'unforeseen scheduling conflicts, including family obligations and upcoming tv and film projects”.

Disappointed fans thought this meant he was not coming at all, but Mitch Lowe, the Tauranga-based music promoter of Trademark Live, assured people that he is coming next year and that new dates will be announced soon.

'The tour is actually being rescheduled with new dates to be announced ASAP,” says Lowe. 'Snoop is still coming to Aotearoa as per his post, he just couldn't make it work this year. We can't wait to host the legend in New Zealand.

'We deeply apologise for any inconvenience caused; we know a lot goes into booking flights and accommodation, and you'll be able to make those changes as soon as we have the new dates locked in.”

Lowe, who also is one of the promoters for popular music festivals Bay Dreams, Soundsplash, Storm The Gates and Mardi Gras, says that refunds would be available for any Snoop Dogg ticket holders who could not make the new dates.

'We are chatting to Snoop's team. We already have pencilled dates, but it's a major job to reshuffle a world tour.”

The tour celebrates the release of Snoop Dogg's 17th album ‘I Wanna Thank Me', and documentary of the same name, marking 25 years of his stellar music career with chart-topping, multi-platinum records, appearances in Hollywood movies and, more recently, a burgeoning cannabis business.

Hailed by Rolling Stone as 'America's Most Lovable Pimp”, he's collaborated with music stars such as 2Pac, Pharrell Williams, Dr Dre, Eminem, Warren G, Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus.

From playing piano at his local baptist church in Long Beach California, Snoop Dogg first exploded on to the music scene back in 1992 when he featured on Dr Dre's iconic album ‘The Chronic'.

Since then, he's released 17 studio albums, enjoyed 17 Grammy nominations and sold tens of millions of records.

Snoop Dogg was last in New Zealand in 2014 when he headlined Auckland's Big Day Out. He also had a tour stop here in 2008.

Every interview that I have seen with people who have interacted with this fella, have told of the extremely heavy use of Marijuana by him and his entourage. Presumably this government is happy to tacitly allow, if not encourage the supply of drugs (which are Still illegal in NZ) to overseas visitors if they are a high profile identity. We all know that there's a very high likelihood that he will be supplied with everything that he asks for and that will probably include his illegal drug of choice. This needs to be examined by government.

Just looking at his bio.........

....it doesn't look like Mr Dogg is likely to be the type of person that should be welcomed into New Zealand, but, based on popularity with some, may well be welcomed if not denied as a result of 'legal matters' .. I guess he is popular at his art, and do hope that something within him is a source of inspiration and positivity for those wishing to interact with this....'legend'.....
