MOH reports the deaths of 15 people with Covid-19

Today the Ministry of Health is are reporting 5435 community cases, 377 current hospitalisations, and 15 deaths.

The seven-day rolling average of community case numbers today is 5451 – last Thursday, it was 6059.

In the Bay of Plenty, there are 171 new community cases being reported along with 17 hospitalisations.

The Lakes district is reporting 77 new cases and one hospitalisation.

"Today we are sadly reporting the deaths of 15 people with Covid-19. Twelve of these deaths occurred this month and three deaths were in April and May 2022," says a spokesperson for the MOH.

"Today's reported deaths take the total number of publicly reported deaths with Covid-19 to 1374 and the seven-day rolling average of reported deaths is 12."

Of the people whose deaths we are reporting today; three people were from Northland, five were from the Auckland region, one from Taranaki, one from MidCentral, one from the Wellington region, one from Canterbury, one from South Canterbury and two from Southern.

Two were in their 30s; one was in their 50s; one was in their 60s; three were in their 70s; six were in their 80s; and two were aged over 90. Of these people, seven were women and eight were men.

"This is a very sad time for whānau and friends and our thoughts and condolences are with them. Out of respect, we will be making no further comment on these deaths."

Please note, the Ministry of Health's daily reported cases may differ slightly from those reported at a DHB or local public health unit level. This is because of different reporting cut off times and the assignment of cases between regions, for example when a case is tested outside their usual region of residence. Total numbers will always be the formal daily case tally as reported to the WHO.
