Bay company top renovator

A home in Taupo and a renovation in Tauranga have been named this year's top Bay of Plenty and Central Plateau properties, winning Supreme Awards in the Bay of Plenty/Central Plateau Registered Master Builders PlaceMakers 2012 House of the Year.

Haimes Building Limited took out the PlaceMakers Supreme Award for the House of the Year with its build of a Taupo home in the New Homes $1 million - $2 million category.

Riordan Construction Limited won the PlaceMakers Supreme Award and the Bay of Plenty Central Plateau Registered Master Builders 2012 Renovation of the Year.

The home also took out the PlaceMakers Bathroom Excellence Award and the Outdoor Living Award.

Riordan Construction Limited in Tauranga was awarded the PlaceMakers Supreme Award for the Renovation of the Year, as well as the Renovation Award over $500,000 and the Craftsmanship Award for its transformation of a Matua home.

Haimes Building Limited's new home build impressed the competition judges who say the builder's almost pedantic attention to detail coupled with his innovative ideas have helped him to create a well-crafted and well finished home that can be fully enjoyed by the owner.

'The home has everything in terms of outdoor living, and excellent flow through to the family and formal areas. The detailing of the large outdoor area is well thought through and well lit with a fireplace, alfresco dining, and a spa pool, ideal for entertaining,” they say.

'The overall design and functionality of the en suite, which has taken out the PlaceMakers Bathroom Excellence Award, has been carefully planned. It is a tidy and well executed bathroom that has been lavishly finished with wall to ceiling tiling, a spacious walk in shower and a bath recessed to one side.”

Riordan Construction Limited's renovation also pleased the judges.

'The builder has been able to give this impressive home overlooking the Tauranga harbour a new lease of life. The interior has been skilfully renewed, particularly the kitchen and bathrooms which are a credit to his detailed craftsmanship.

'Dealing with unexpected issues is always a feature of this type of job, and the ability of the builder to meet the owner's requirements so well is a testament to his dedication and commitment to the job.”

The builders' entries were recognised by members of the Bay of Plenty and Central Plateau region's Registered Master Builders and the local building industry at The Barrel Room, Mills Reef on Saturday night.

The Bay of Plenty and Central Plateau region's competition includes entries from the Rotorua, Taupo, Tauranga and Whakatane areas.

There were 17 Gold Award winners from the Bay of Plenty and Central Plateau Region which will now be assessed alongside Gold Award winners from the other 11 regions of the competition to find the National Gold Reserve finalists, which will be announced in September.

Mount Maunganui builder Murray Pedersen received a gold award in the PlaceMakers Renovation Award over $500,000 section and silver in the New Homes $1 million - $2 million category.

Kuriger Builders Tauranga Limited, based in Maungatapu, were awarded silver in the NNew Homes $450,000 - $600,000 category.
