Bethlehem Takeaways fire under investigation

Police and fire safety investigators are investigating the cause of a fire at a Bethlehem shop.

Police received a report of a building on fire on State Highway 2, Bethlehem at around 2.20am on Tuesday.

'The fire happened at the fish and chip shop around 2 o'clock,” says a fire investigator at the scene on Tuesday morning.

'There were four or five fire trucks when I got here about 3am.”

The fire investigator was at the scene until 9am completing an investigation.

The fire caused extensive damage to the back of the shop including the area where food supplies and two gas cylinders are stored.

The shop's blackened front window has large cracks.

'It's now a police scene,” says the fire investigator.

'We will be assisting Fire and Emergency with determining the cause of the fire,” says a police spokesperson.
