UPDATE 1.16PM: One person has suffered moderate injuries after a digger rolled in Tauranga's CBD.

A police spokesperson says they were called to the incident on The Strand just after 12.35pm.

"The incident was reported to police just after 12.35pm. The digger has toppled over.

"One person has moderate injuries and been transported to hospital."

EARLIER:

Emergency services are at the scene of an incident in Tauranga's CBD.

A digger is reported to have rolled near the end of The Strand beyond the Matapihi rail bridge.

"There are four police cars at the scene," says a witness at the scene.

"And one ambulance on site."

It is unknown at this stage whether there are any injuries.
