Forgery: Alleged fake doctor arrested and charged

A man is alleged to have used fake documents to work as a doctor at south Auckland’s Middlemore Hospital.

A man accused of using fake documents to secure a job as a doctor at one of the country's busiest hospitals has been arrested.

Te Whatu Ora Manukau filed a complaint with police after it was discovered that a man was employed in February 'on the basis of documentation that was not authentic”.

He worked in a 'clinical research position”, was no longer employed by Te Whatu Ora Counties Manukau and a complaint has been made to the police, says a spokesperson for the health organisation

Health Minister Andrew Little says he was advised on Wednesday, August 10, that a staff member at Middlemore was stood down the week prior following 'concerns about his qualifications”.

In a statement today, Counties Manukau CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Veronica McPherson says police have arrested and charged a man as part of a fraud investigation.

'Today, a 30-year-old man has been charged with forgery.

'The man is expected to appear in the Manukau District Court later today.

'Police will continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this case.

'We are not ruling out additional charges being laid but this will depend on our ongoing enquiries.

'As the matter is now before the court, police are unable to comment further.”
