Steamers winger Lance Macdonald opened the scoring in the opening minutes, after a mid-field turnover saw Macdonald dash away to score under the posts. The Steamers second try in the opening quarter came when Luke Braid crashed over.

The North Harbour reply came almost straight away with Cory Aporo dotting down. Two Michael Hobbs penalties resulted in the Steamers taking a narrow 14-13 advantage into the half time break.

Lance MacDonald landed a double when he touched down in the opening quarter of the second spell. The Steamers led 21-13 before Harbour prop James Parsons crashed over to get his side back in the match. Two further backline touchdowns awarded to Kendrick Lynn and Phil Burleigh extended the Bay team's lead, before a third Harbour try on full time, saw the Steamers post a five try to three 33-25 victory. Steamers kicker Chris Noakes was in good form converting four of his side's touchdowns.
