Police are making enquiries after a person was located dead near Waerenga / Mission Bay, Rotorua today.

Police were notified shortly before midday by a member of the public, says a police spokesperson.

"Until we have completed the formal identification process we will be unable to confirm the identity of the body.

"Further updates will be provided when they are available."
